Intercultural Studies
CORE AREAS OF IMPACT – Intercultural Studies
We strongly believe in expanding the educational boundaries to include a worldly approach to learning, which coincides with the district’s mission to provide future-oriented, educational programs that prepare students for college and beyond.
Highland Intercultural Program
More than 50 students and teachers from France and Spain visited the Highland community in October 2022. Reciprocated travel to Spain (November 2022) and France (March 2023) allowed Highland students to strengthen relationships and learn from students in our sister schools in France and Spain. Thanks to this ongoing program, students have the opportunity to explore first-hand the history, languages, and cultures of other countries while in the classroom and visiting abroad.
Throughout the program’s 10 year history, we have welcomed over 328 students and staff from China, Spain and France to Highland and over 200 Highland students and staff have had the opportunity to study and travel abroad. Funding helps cover staff travel and includes host costs for meals, hotels for guest teachers, and field trip entrance fees for guest students. Funding is also provided to Highland students who may need financial assistance with travel expenses.
