Evelyn has been a member of Peer Leading and National Honor Society. She was also a member of the varsity Tennis, Track, and Cross Country teams. Evelyn will be attending the University of Cincinnati in the fall and plans to study Nursing.

Elle is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, Lacrosse and Cross Country. Elle will be attending Baldwin Wallace University to study Biology.

Caden is a very busy student at Highland High School as a member of National Honor Society, Peer Leading, and as a summer camp counselor. He will be attending Miami University in the fall to study Kinesiology and Pre-Health.

Alexis has been involved in multiple activities including being the Sparkle Squad Coach and Varsity Cheerleading Captain. She will be attending Ohio State University and will be studying Health Sciences.

Ella is an integral member of VOFT, peer leading, tennis, lacrosse, swimming, softball, and basketball. She will pursue a degree in her passion of Nursing at the University of Tennessee.

Lukas is a member and a mentor of Speech and Debate, an Eagle Scout as well as the Ping Pong Club co-founder. He also is an avid piano player. Lukas will be attending the Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering.

Amulya has been a blood donor ambassador with the Red Cross, as well as a member of both the National Art Honor Society and Junior Leadership Medina County. She will be attending the University of Cincinnati to study Medical Sciences.

Megan has been Student Council President, a Peer Leader, and the National Honor Society Director of Communications. She plans to attend the University of Cincinnati to study Marketing.

Kendall has been a soccer player, as well as a cross country and track runner. She also is a member of National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions. Kendall will be attending the University of Cincinnati and plans to major in Biology.

Kelly has been a sixth grade camp counselor, a peer leader, and has held two jobs in her time at Highland High School. She will be attending Kent State University in the fall to study Interior Design.

Olivia has been a talented softball player and class representative both her Junior and Senior year. She will be attending the Franciscan University of Steubenville in the fall to study Early Childhood Education.

Maya has been involved in a variety of activities while at Highland including being president of National Honor Society and a Volleyball player. She will be studying Political Science at Ohio State University this fall.

Brayden has participated in Buckeye Boys State as well as Junior Leadership and is a member of National Honor Society. Brayden will be attending the Citadel Military College for Business Management & Pre-Law.

Ian has been actively involved in many activities at Highland including Soccer, Tennis, Peer Leading, and Ping Pong Club. He will be attending Ohio State University in the fall to study Business.

Maya’s many accomplishments include being a peer leader, a member of DARE and Marching Band. In the fall, Maya will be attending Ohio University to study Sociology in Criminology.

Liam has a multitude of accomplishments including being on Varsity Debate, Varsity Tennis, a 6th grade camp counselor, and many more. In the fall, Liam will be attending the University of Chicago to study Computer Science.

Jenna has been involved in many activities such as Yearbook, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Junior Leadership Medina County and more. She will be attending Brigham Young University this fall to study Physics and Astronomy.

The Baker Family Leadership Scholarship ($1,000)–This scholarship was established by Donald and Carol Baker as a renewable scholarship for a college-bound Highland senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic and social leadership traits at school and or in the community while a student at Highland Local Schools. The initial scholarship amount is $1,000, with the renewable amount of $1,000 annually for up to three years, provided the recipient remains in contact with The Highland Foundation and meets the renewal criteria set forth in the scholarship application. The winner of the Baker Family Leadership Scholarship is Lukas Graber. To highlight a few of Lukas’ accomplishments, Lukas is in Boy Scouts and spends his time running and cooking. He will be studying Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology this fall.

Morrison Hard Work Pays Scholarship ($1,000) — The Morrison “Hard Work Pays” Scholarship shall be awarded to a hard-working, college bound Highland student who has been employed throughout his/her high school career in an effort to save for a collegiate STEM or Business pursuit. Applicants must have been employed during their time in high school, have a 3.0 GPA or higher and be pursuing a collegiate degree in STEM or Business. The 2024 Morrison Hard Work Pays Scholarship recipient is Xandra Murawski. Xandra has a variety of accomplishments including being in multiple presidency positions, as well as a member of thespians and her 4-H club secretary. She will be headed to Kent State University to study Entrepreneurship.

Mike Kudla Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) —This scholarship honors the hard work, determination, kindness and generosity for which Michael John Kudla was known and is remembered. Mike was a proud 2002 honors graduate of Highland High School and The Ohio State University. An honor student and four-year letter winner at both institutions, he was known for his strength on and off the football field. The Mike Kudla Memorial Scholarship shall be awarded to a college bound Highland student who is passionate in their life goals, has the qualities needed to persevere through life’s obstacles and is determined to make a difference by helping others in the community. This year’s recipient is Chase Crutchley. To highlight a few of his accomplishments, Chase is both a wrestler and a football player, as well as a member of Hope Squad. Chase will be attending Case Western Reserve this fall to study Nutritional Sciences.

Steven J. Bilecky Memorial Scholarship ($1,500) —Established by the Bilecky family in memory of their son, Steven, a 1988 graduate, applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement. Case Hummel is the recipient of this year’s Steven J. Bilecky Memorial Scholarship. To highlight a few of his accomplishments, Case has played the trumpet in Concert Band and Wind Ensemble and is a member of his Church Youth Group. He plans to attend Ferris State University in the fall to study Welding Engineering Technology.

William O. Wagar Memorial Math & Science Scholarship ($1,000) —Inspired by 1983 graduate Bill Wagar who died of cancer in 2000, this scholarship is awarded to a senior majoring in a math or science-related field. The winner of this scholarship is John Toth. To highlight a few of his accomplishments, John plays Varsity Baseball, and is a participant in the Medina County Career Center’s Unified Sports and their Sports Medicine Technical Honors Society. He will be attending Ashland University to study Exercise Science.

Letha E. House Scholarship ($1,000) —
Mrs. House was a life-long resident of Medina County and was very interested in horticulture, specifically flowers and gardening. Recipients must pursue a career in horticulture or related field of study. Lukas Graber enjoys studying languages in his free time and is a member of the Speech and Debate club. He plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology to study Computer Engineering.

Alyssa & Justin Haun Memorial Scholarship ($2,500) —This scholarship was established as a means to give back to the community that gave so much to the Haun family in the wake of the siblings’ tragic deaths in July 2018. This renewable scholarship is awarded to a college-bound senior pursuing a STEM course of study and one who has positively impacted others. Caden Davis is this year’s recipient. To highlight just a few of Caden’s accomplishments, he is a Sunday School Leader and in the Ping Pong Club! Caden plans to attend Miami University this fall to study Kinesiology and Pre-Health.

George R. Ayres Memorial Achievement Scholarship ($3,000) —These scholarships were created through the estate plan of long-time area resident George Ayres. The scholarships are offered to college-bound Highland seniors in the top 20% of their class who have demonstrated high achievement in scholastic activities, have a record of activities both in school and in the community, and who plan to pursue collegiate STEM studies. Case  Hummel has been involved in several activities including being a member of National Honor Society and his local 4-H group. He will be headed to Ferris State University and studying Welding Engineering Technology.

George R. Ayres Memorial Achievement Scholarship ($3,000) —
These scholarships were created through the estate plan of long-time area resident George Ayres. The scholarships are offered to college-bound Highland seniors in the top 20% of their class who have demonstrated high achievement in scholastic activities, have a record of activities both in school and in the community, and who plan to pursue collegiate STEM studies. Liam Wright is his 4-H club’s President, a camp counselor for both 6th grade camp and 4-H camp, and a participant in both Varsity Debate and Varsity Tennis. He will be attending the University of Chicago to study Computer Science.

George R. Ayres Memorial Opportunity Scholarships ($3,000) —Made possible through the estate plan of long-time area resident George Ayres, these scholarships are available to Highland seniors in need of an opportunity of their own in order to pursue a professional/technical program, associates degree or traditional college course of study. Applicants explain what inspires them to learn and how this scholarship will impact their future educational and career opportunities. Karlie Crandall is receiving this year’s scholarship. Karlie has been a participant in Cheerleading while at Highland High School and plans to attend Kent State Stark University to study Early Childhood Education.

Chorba Family “Give Where You Live” Scholarship ($1,981) —The Chorba family believes in supporting their local community. To honor their Highland education, they established the Chorba Family “Give Where You Live” Scholarship. Ever connecting people with their passions, Dale and his family created a two-year college scholarship that honors their legacy. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Highland senior with a 3.0 or better GPA, an athlete, band or orchestra member and who is pursuing collegiate study in business and/or music. As a special honor to his alma maters, the scholarship award amounts will coincide with Dale’s graduation years: $1981, the first year, and $1985, the second year. Jordyn Tousley is this year’s recipient. Jordyn is a dedicated member of the Highland community through her activities such as Sinfonia Orchestra, Speech and Debate and Student Council. Jordyn will be attending Cedarville University with plans to study Music & Business Management. Congratulations, Jordyn.

Max Muzyczka Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) —Maxwell J. Muzyczka, “Max” was a beloved friend to all his classmates. He carried an energy and humor that buoyed his 2024 class and teammates alike throughout his years and beyond his passing in 2020. His spirit lives on with his gifts of life through organ donation and in the hearts of those who remember him. A scholarship bearing his name has been established to honor his larger-than-life personality which will be missed by so many in the year that he would have graduated from Highland High School, 2024. The Max Muzyczka Memorial Scholarship shall be awarded to a college bound Highland student of strong faith who champions others, plays a school supported or recognized team sport, participates in musical pursuits and has a minimum 3.5 grade point average. The winner of this scholarship is Thomas Shondel. To highlight a few of his accomplishments, Thomas is a talented scholar athlete, and an all conference and all district football player. He is also the varsity football captain and varsity wrestling captain. Thomas will be attending John Carroll University to study Finance.

Victoria M. Jackson Performing Arts Scholarship ($1,000) —This scholarship was established by the Jackson family in memory of their daughter, Victoria, who passed away in an auto accident in 2009. This scholarship is presented annually to an outstanding performing arts student. This year’s recipient is Kevin Curtis. Kevin is a talented member of Highland’s choir, as well as a participant in theater, and soccer. He plans to attend University of Miami in Ohio and will be studying Mathematics.
